Setup Guide

Make sure you have the following before proceeding:

• NinjaTrader 8 installed and running
• An active data feed connected in NinjaTrader (required for all indicators; VWAP and Volume Spike require a feed with volume enabled)
• Your The Trader Alert license key — found in your welcome email and in your Account Portal
• Your email address for receiving alerts

1. Go to your Account Portal and sign in
2. Under Download Indicators click Generate Download Link
3. Click the file link to download TheTraderAlert_NT8_Indicators.zip

1. Open NinjaTrader 8
2. In the top menu go to Tools → Import NinjaScript
3. Navigate to and select the downloaded TheTraderAlert_NT8_Indicators.zip file
4. Click Open — NinjaTrader will install all indicators automatically
5. You will see a confirmation message when the import is complete

1. Open a chart in NinjaTrader
2. Right-click on the chart and select Indicators
3. In the indicators list scroll down to find the indicator you want (e.g. MACrossoverAlert)
4. Double-click or click Add to add it to your chart
5. The indicator settings panel will open on the right

💡 Tip: type alert in the search box at the top of the indicators list to instantly filter all The Trader Alert indicators.

1. In the indicator settings panel find the License Key field at the top
2. Paste your The Trader Alert license key — copy it from your Account Portal using the Copy Key button
3. Click OK to apply

Each indicator has a set of alert configuration options in the settings panel:

• Alert Conditions — toggle which conditions trigger an alert (e.g. cross up, cross down, overbought, oversold)
• Play Sound — plays a NinjaTrader alert sound when conditions are met
• Send Email — enable this to receive email or SMS text alerts
• Email Address — enter your email address for email alerts, or your carrier SMS address for text alerts (see Step 7)
• Calculate Mode — choose On Bar Close for confirmed signals or On Each Tick for the fastest possible notification
• One Alert Per Bar — when enabled limits alerts to once per bar regardless of calculate mode. Highly recommended when using On Each Tick mode to prevent the same condition from firing repeatedly on every tick within a single bar.
• Time Filter — optionally restrict alerts to a specific session window

To receive alerts as text messages, enter your carrier's email-to-SMS gateway address in the Email Address field instead of your regular email. Use the format yourphonenumber@carrier-gateway.com.

Replace 10digitnumber with your 10-digit phone number including area code, no dashes or spaces. Example: 2135550123@vtext.com

NinjaTrader sends alerts through its own email system. You need to configure your outgoing email settings once:

1. In NinjaTrader go to Tools → Options → Alerts
2. Under Email enter your outgoing SMTP server details
3. For Gmail: use smtp.gmail.com, port 587, with your Gmail address and an App Password (not your regular Gmail password)
4. To create a Gmail App Password you must first have 2-Step Verification enabled on your Google Account — App Passwords are not available without it. To enable it: go to Google Account → Security → 2-Step Verification and follow the setup steps
5. Once 2-Step Verification is enabled go to Google Account → Security → 2-Step Verification → App Passwords, create a new app password for NinjaTrader and paste it into the NinjaTrader email settings
6. Click Test to confirm the email sends successfully

For alerts to fire you need NinjaTrader running with your chart open. As long as your computer is on and NinjaTrader is running with your charts open in the background, your alerts will fire normally.

Important: NinjaTrader must have a chart open to process data and fire alerts — there is no way around this. You DO NOT need a VPS to use The Trader Alert indicators. If you keep your computer on with your charts running in the background your alerts will work perfectly.

If you want alerts running 24/7 without keeping your personal computer on, consider running NinjaTrader on a Virtual Private Server (VPS). A VPS is a remote Windows computer that runs around the clock in a data center — you connect to it via Remote Desktop and run NinjaTrader there permanently.

Search for "Windows VPS for NinjaTrader" to find providers — look for a Windows VPS with at least 4GB RAM and 2 CPU cores, located close to your broker's data center for the best performance.
